How we tested

Every product received the same brief: build an investor-ready deck for a B2B procurement platform, from a fixed set of company facts, targeting roughly twelve slides. No prompt was rewritten to suit a particular tool's syntax. We kept the first successfully completed generation — no regeneration, no prompt edits, a run discarded only for a documented technical failure — then exported to PowerPoint and opened the file to see what survived.

Six criteria carry fixed weights: presentation quality 30%, design quality 20%, PowerPoint export 15%, AI research 15%, editing 10%, value 10%. The overall score is the weighted mean, calculated from those parts rather than chosen first. Read the full methodology.

We publish this framework as BAIPM Benchmark 2026, and the result tables are downloadable rather than screenshot-only: full results (JSON), ranking (CSV), export benchmark (CSV). Reuse is permitted with attribution.

What Gamma does well

  • Generation is fast enough to iterate several drafts in one sitting
  • Themes are genuinely well made, not stock template filler
  • Sharing a deck as a live web page is a first-class path, not an export

Where Gamma costs you time

  • PowerPoint export can shift layout and typography
  • Weaker at grounding a deck in supplied source documents

What Canva does well

  • The largest usable template and asset library of any tool here
  • One brand system carries across decks, documents and social formats
  • Manual design control is far deeper than in the AI-first tools

Where Canva costs you time

  • The AI is an assistant inside the editor rather than the author of the deck
  • Little support for grounding content in your own sources

What Plus AI does well

  • Output lands in the native file format with no export step to lose
  • Fits an existing Google Slides or PowerPoint workflow instead of replacing it
  • Good at rewriting and restructuring decks that already exist

Where Plus AI costs you time

  • Design ambition is limited by the host application's templates
  • Less compelling if you do not already live in Slides or PowerPoint

What Beautiful.ai does well

  • Layouts self-adjust, so a slide is hard to make ugly
  • Team templates and brand locking are unusually strict, in a good way
  • Consistency across many authors is the best in this group

Where Beautiful.ai costs you time

  • The same constraints that protect the brand block bespoke composition
  • No meaningful research or source-grounding capability

How to choose

The honest version of this category is that the overall ranking matters less than one question: what has to happen to the deck after the AI finishes with it. Start there.

The deck has to be handed over as a PowerPoint file
Start with Slaide. This is the axis with the widest spread in the category: the difference between a .pptx that opens and a .pptx you can work in is most of an afternoon.
You are sharing a link, not a file
Gamma. Its decks are built as web documents first, and everything about sharing, embedding and updating them is simpler than exporting from a file-based tool.
You produce many formats from one brand system
Canva. No other tool here comes close on template breadth or on carrying one brand across decks, documents and social assets.
Your team will not leave Google Slides or PowerPoint
Plus AI. It generates inside the host application, so there is no export step to lose fidelity in and no second tool to administer.
Many people author decks and none of them are designers
Beautiful.ai. Its layout constraints are the strictest here, which is exactly what keeps a large team's output consistent.

Questions worth asking before you buy

Can an AI presentation maker produce a deck that is genuinely ready to present?

For a routine internal or business deck, the better tools now get close enough that the remaining work is editing rather than building. For a high-stakes external deck — an investor pitch, a board paper — every tool here still produces a strong draft rather than a finished artefact. Budget time for a pass over the numbers and the narrative.

Does .pptx export actually matter if the tool has a web viewer?

It matters whenever somebody other than you has to change the deck, and whenever the deck has to survive being emailed into an organisation that runs on PowerPoint. If your decks only ever live as links, the export axis is close to irrelevant and you should weight design and speed instead.

Are the AI-written numbers in a generated deck trustworthy?

Treat every figure a model produced as unverified until you check it against your source. Tools that ground a deck in documents you supply are meaningfully safer than tools that write from the prompt alone, but none of them removes the obligation to check.

Is a free plan enough?

For a single deck, usually yes. Free tiers here are real rather than decorative. The constraints that bite are export quality, brand controls and volume, all of which sit on paid tiers.
